History of Water Treatments
Long before the discovery of antibiotics, water treatments were known to be a effective, non-toxic, means of enhancing the action of the body's immune system in controlling bacterial and viral diseases.
Hydrotherapy(the use water in healing)was used effectively during the latter half of the nineteenth century. Some physicians, such as Wilhelm Winternitz of Vienna, and john H. Kellogg, director of the Seventh-day Adventist Battle Creek Sanitarium in America, did much to put hydrotherapy on a scientific basis.
Dr. Kellogg did much original research. The health center he supervised became famous for its hydrotherapy treatments, which were used in conjunction with diet and exercise. In 1901 he wrote a 1,200 page book entitled, Rational hydrotherapy, which explained his method of treatment. In addition, he trained many nurses in the skillful application of water for the treatment of many diseases and injuries. Moat of the treatments he originated are still in use today.
